On Saturday Eversley & California played one of the biggest games of their season when they travelled to face Cove in a game that would decide who would finish bottom of the table and face potential relegation.
The Boars had taken just 1 point from their last 7 matches heading into the game and were separated from their opponents by 1 place and a solitary point at the bottom of the table. It was the home side who drew first blood when they took the lead from the penalty spot on 10 minutes, but Eversley were back on level terms 7 minutes later when Brad Brown flicked on a cross for Ross McKernan to score from close range.
Midway through the first half Cove retook the lead with a goal from close range, but the Boars were able to equalise once again when Nick Cooper scored from the edge of the box to make it 2-2.
Eversley took control of the match early in the second half with 2 goals in 5 minutes. First Brown gave his side the lead on 50 minutes before Jordan Goater finished off a good team move to make it 4-2. Cove then had their right back sent off for a second bookable offence making Eversley’s job a bit easier, and he Boars took advantage on 70 minutes when Ryan White powered home a corner to complete the scoring.
The home side then imploded, receiving two further red cards, with their goalkeeper being sent off for handling outside the area before their centre back was shown a straight red for a bad challenge on Goater. Eversley saw out the game against 8 men and recorded the victory which leaves them 4 points above their opponents with Cove only having a game remaining, meaning the Boars retain their league status for next season.
Also in the Combined Counties Division One Sandhurst Town maintained their push for a top 6 finish with a 1-0 victory over Kensington Borough.
The only goal of the game came in the 75th minute when Irdis Kamara headed home a cross to give the Fizzers the win in their last home game of the season. Sandhurst now finish their campaign with 3 away games as they look to maintain their 6th place standing in the table with Ash United and Epsom & Ewell close behind them.
In the Hellenic League Division One East Holyport welcomed Wallingford Town to Summerleaze Village in a game between two sides looking to finish in the top 4 in the table.
Port took the lead after 30 minutes of a tight first half when Fabian Driffill played in Jamie Hanscombe who made it 1-0. The game stayed at 1-0 until the 70th minutes when Holyport’s top scorer Driffill added to his tally and made it 2-0 to the home side, which is how it finished. The result sees Holyport remain in 5th, 1 point behind Didcot Town Development with a game in hand, while Wallingford remain in 7th.
