On Saturday Wokingham & Emmbrook faced Thames Valley Premier League side Burghfield in the long delayed second round tie of the Reading Senior Cup.
The game was originally due to be played on 1st December but had been postponed on more than one occasion due to the weather. The scores were level until just before half time when Elliott Rushforth burst through to give the Sumas the lead.
In the second half there were chances at both ends but it took until 10 minutes before time for a goal to come when Burghfield levelled with a long-range effort. Wokingham had the last say when they won a corner in injury time from which Ellis Day headed home the winner.
In the Hellenic Division One East AFC Aldermaston continued their good recent form with a big home win over Wallingford Town. All three of Sid Glba, Sam Bangura and Josh Blackwood scored in each half for the Atomics and Wally could only manage a second half consolation, to leave the final score 6-1 to the home side.
The win is Aldermaston’s 7th in a row, a run that has seen them score 30 goals and concede just 2, and it keeps them 7 points off top spot with a game in hand, as leaders Burnham won 3-0 at home to Penn & Tylers Green.
At Scours Lane Woodley United paid the price for a disappointing first half performance in their game against Chalvey Sports. The Kestrels went into the break 3-0 down after a first half that the away side dominated. In the second half Woodley gave themselves a lifeline when Jonathan Malone got a goal back from the penalty spot.
Deep into injury time at the end of the game Woodley got another through an own goal, but there was no time to grab an equaliser and the game finished 3-2 to Chalvey.
In the Combined Counties Sandhurst Town hosted Frimley Green at Bottom Meadow. After a goalless first half it was Frimley who managed to take their chances in the second period, running out 2-0 winners with their top scorer Daniel Bone getting both goals.
The Fizzers are still in 8th place with games in hand on the teams above, where as Frimley stay in 2nd on goal difference and keep up the momentum in their bid for promotion.
Eversley & California endured a tough afternoon as they went down 5-0 in their match at another side who are chasing promotion, Sheerwater.
The only good news for the Boars is that none of the other teams around them in the battle to avoid relegation picked up any points so they remain in 15th place, 4 points above Fleet Spurs at the foot of the table.
