In the Combined Counties League Division One Eversley & California claimed their first point under new manager Matt Angel after drawing at home to Cove, however the result was a frustrating one as a strong first have saw the Boars take a two-goal lead into the break.
Eversley took the lead 18 minutes into the game from the penalty spot after Jordan Goater was tripped in the box. Brad Brown stepped up and converted to score his 8th goal of the season. Brown’s 9th of the season followed 10 minutes later when a smart counter attack finished with Sam Knight playing him in to make it 2-0.
The second half did not go to plan for Eversley, as Cove got a goal back after 70 minutes and then equalised 5 minutes from time to leave the final score 2-2, much to the disappointment of the home side.
Sandhurst Town fell victim to a late goal in their match at FC Deportivio Galicia. The home side had taken the lead midway through the first half from the penalty spot, but Charlie Oakley got the Fizzers back on level terms just three minutes later with his 12th goal of the season. The scores remained at one a piece until into injury time when a Deportivo grabbed the winner.
In the Hellenic League Division One East, the Berkshire derby between Holyport and Wokingham & Emmbrook turned out to be a scrappy game with few chances for either side.
Both sides enjoyed periods of pressure but clear cut chances were at a premium and neither side were able to break down the other’s defence. The game finished 0-0 with the two sides cancelling each other out in an even encounter.
Atom Men back up to second
AFC Aldermaston recorded a comfortable victory in their match at home to Chinnor. The Atom Men took the lead just before half time when top scorer Josh Blackwood found some space and sent the ball into the top corner with a spectacular strike. In the second half Jamal Forde Small doubled the home side’s advantage before Sam Bangura rounded out the scoring 20 minutes from time. The win sees Aldermaston climb up to 2nd in the table.
Wallingford Town kept up the pressure on Aldermaston in the race for promotion as they recorded a win over Milton United at the Hithercroft. Charlie Silkstone put Wally ahead after 11 minutes with his 22nd goal of the season, a strike that puts him in outright second place in the Hellenic Division One East scoring charts. Tom Baptie made it two on 34 minutes, and while Milton did grab a goal back from the spot in the second half, Wallingford were able to see out the game for the victory.
In the final Step 6 game of the day, Woodley United were beaten at home by league leaders Burnham. The Kestrels started well and did take the lead after 6 minutes when Leon Mannion played in Max Laschok to make it 1-0.
Burnham equalised 10 minutes later, and the scores were still level at the break after an entertaining half of football. Burnham started strongly in the second half and a minute after the break they took the lead. However, on 55 minutes Woodley thought they were back in the game when Laschok was brought down in the box and the referee pointed to the spot, but after consultation with the linesman the penalty was not given. It was not to be for Woodley, and Burnham added a further 2 goals to leave the final score 4-1 to the visitors.
