A 3-0 win for Ascot United at home to Fairford Town in the Hellenic League Premier Division on Saturday saw them move to within two points of leaders Brackley Town Saints, albeit having played two more fixtures.
Both sides finished the match with 10 men after Ascot captain Louis Bouwers was sent off on 81 minutes, and Robbie James received a second yellow card for the visitors on 85.
The game was all but over by that point though, Dan Price scoring on 67 minutes before Jonny Denton made it 2-0 on 80.
Despite the two red cards in the final ten minutes, there was still time for left back Denton to score his second of the night in injury time.
The Yellamen’s cause at the top of the table was helped by both Brackley and Brimscombe & Thrupp dropping points.
Dropped points
Current Premier Division leaders Saints were beaten 2-0 at home by Bishops Cleeve with the Mitre’s remaining a good bet to challenge for the title with three games in hand while Brimscombe were held to a 1-1 draw on Friday night at Royal Wootton Bassett Town.
Elsewhere, three first half goals from Lorenzo Di Felice, Adam Mills and Jamie Read gave Virginia Water a 3-0 win at home over Reading City.
At the other end of the table, both Longlevens and Tuffley Rovers saw their fixtures postponed while Abingdon United were without a game, though Shrivenham picked up a valuable three points with a 2-1 win over Wantage Town.
