Well Woodley United manager James Anderson said he felt a big win was coming and his side duly delivered in Gloucestershire beating Longlevens 4-1 on Thursday night.
If the Kestrels can make it two in a row on Saturday when they host Ascot United at Scours Lane then the great escape is certainly on for the side currently second bottom in the Hellenic League Premier Division but for now they can take enormous confidence from two Hayden Richardson goals and one apiece for Sam Guze and a Danny Horscroft penalty that won the game.
Anderson’s side were 3-0 up at half time only for Longlevens to pull one back but Horscroft settled the nerves on 71 minutes with his strike from 12 yards.
Elsewhere Ascot United reached the last four of the Bluefin Sport Hellenic League Supplementary Cup after a 4-0 win at home to Pewsey Vale. Jonny Denton hit a hat trick and Barry Dunbar also netted for the Yellamen who will face Burnham, Flackwell Heath, Highworth Town or Holyport in the semi’s.
