Woodley United have been promoted to the highest division in their history after a 3-0 win at home to Chinnor secured second place in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Division 1 East.

The Kestrels will take their place in the Premier Division for the 2017/18 season assuming an agreement has been reached with Highmoor-IBIS over the use of Scours Lane – and given the banners on show at the ground tonight we expect everything to be confirmed shortly.

Michael Herbert has performed a minor miracle in transforming a side that has finished bottom of the pile twice in the last three seasons in to title challengers – something that could still be on the cards if champions elect Penn & Tylers Green slip up in their final two matches like they did recently at Wokingham & Emmbrook.

On the night Woodley United only needed a point to confirm second place from Headington Amateurs put took all three thanks to goals from Charlie Oakley, Josh Drew and Liam Wilson to earn automatic promotion and a highest ever league finish – the previous high was third as Woodley Town in 2013 when they pipped Bracknell Town to the post.

Team members and supporters have been busy posting congratulations on twitter this evening with a few from those who were there..
