Ascot United Ladies started 2017 with a bang and a 6-1 defeat of Wargrave Ladies in the Southern Region Women’s Football League Division 1.
Hannah Evans hit a hat-trick and there were goals for Amy Woollard and a brace for Lucy Holzman-Clarke in a big win at Wargrave’s Recreation Ground.
Holzman-Clarke opened the scoring for the Yellawomen and Evans hit her first two of the afternoon before half-time. Wargrave hit back on 50 minutes but there were three further strikes to win the game.
Also in Division 1, Woodley United’s home tie with Alton was postponed.
It wasn’t a good start to the year for Bracknell Town Ladies first team who were beaten 7-1 at Chesham United in the Premier Division, meaning they remain without a league point this season.
In the Thames Valley Counties Women’s Football League Division 2 South there was a heavy defeat for Sandhurst Town who lost 7-3 at home to Taplow United.
Nicola Dixon, Shellie Irvine and Shannon Mather all scored for the Fizzers but the improving Taplow had to much for the fourth placed side.
And finally, there was a second win of the season for Bracknell Town Ladies Development who beat Harefield United 2-1.
Ariesha Stephenson-Lewis opened the scoring for the Robins before a United equaliser shortly after, but Abi Dixon won it for Bracknell with a superb strike from 18 yards.
