Reading FC Women captain Lucy Bolitho is up for a Berkshire Football Award in the category of Player of the Season (Female).
The Royals have rallied in recent weeks, coinciding with Bolitho’s taking of the captaincy after a tough start to life in the Southern Region Women’s Football League Premier Division.
The story is well known – Reading FC Women are now playing as Reading FC Community Trust after the high profile demotion from the FA Women’s Championship in the summer due to off-field matters.
Bolitho though has been almost ever-present this season with 18 appearances and is join top-scorer with Mia Bradley and Zuzanna Gajzler on four goals each.
One nomination for the award said: “I am nominating Lucy Bolitho for Female Player of the Season because of her incredible leadership and impact as captain, guiding her team to safety in a tough season. With her determination, skill, and never-give-up attitude, Lucy played a crucial role in securing vital results that kept the team from relegation. She has led by example, stepping up in key moments, motivating her teammates, and delivering outstanding performances when it mattered most. Her resilience and commitment have been truly inspiring, making her not just a great captain, but a deserving candidate for this award.”
Another added: “She took the risk leaving Brentford FC into the unknown with Reading FC, you can see she really motivates and supports her team mate. What an achievement making captain too. She is a role model for girls and women and was announced a role model on International Women’s Day.”
