We presumed with the biblical storms earlier in the week and the early hours of Sunday that we’d see widespread postponements across the county but Berkshire delivered with goals galore. Our women’s sides racked up an eye-watering 111 goals between them in the Southern Region Women’s Football League and the Thames Valley Counties Women’s Football League.

Windsor & Eton were responsible for seven of those in a 12 goal thriller against Hayes based-side Brook House in their debut home game at Stag Meadow. A nervy opener for the hosts as Brook House broke the deadlock early on. But Captain Stevie Romney proved her weight in goals as she was on the scoresheet yet again with what we can only assume will be the first of many hat-tricks this season, taking her tally to five goals in two games for The Royalists. Sophie Kinsman also added two more to her account with Laura McGregor netting a brace too. Emma Hester will no doubt be one for fellow sides to keep an eye on with her skillset nestled in set-pieces. Whilst the game appeared open-ended as the pair played cat and mouse with the scoreline, Windsor ultimately came out on top to secure their second win of the campaign registering all six points available to them so far.

And whilst the team were busy on the pitch, the bar too was chocked full of supporters post-match revelling in the win for Windsor & Eton.

Windsor sit top of the Division Three South table in the TVCWFL, a division dominated by Berkshire sides, and it looks set to be a very competitive season for all involved.

Headlines across the county

Ascot United continued the good start as they headed to newly promoted AFC Portchester securing another win as they put five past the Division One South champions with Leah Littlechild and Leah Robertson both on the scoresheet again.

Woodley United turned their fortunes round after a forgettable performance against the Yellas last week as they hosted the Badshot Lea at Bulmershe Pavilion in their first home game of the season. Sarah Lawrence opened her account in style nabbing two added time goals in both halves.

Holly Wilkins also celebrated her 150th appearance for the club, no mean feat for any footballer but especially in the women’s game.

Finchampstead Firsts and Reserves did the business with both squads procuring the three points in their respective divisions. Their Firsts netting five and keeping a clean sheet away to Haddenham in Division One and their Reserves with seven also away from home to East Oxford Ladies Reserves as Emma Gaywood continued the theme of hattricks across the county.

More seventh heaven as Wallingford and Crowmarsh showed North Leigh who was the boss at home with six different scorers on the sheet.

S4K shared the spoils in a 4-4 thriller against Wantage Town with three of their four strikes coming from free kicks in Division Two.

Whilst a 2-0 win certainly wasn’t the standout fixture in Three South, Taplow’s triumph over Barton Rovers was the only clean sheet in the division with Gabriella Dyer clinching both strikes.

Burghfield Reserves got the better of Wraysbury away from home as they hit six past the hosts, whilst nabbed a clean sheet spoiler in the 60th minute in the Development Division.
