Aimee Claypole has put pen to paper on loans with Swedish side, Linkoping (pronounced lin-shoh-peen) who ply their trade in the Damallsvenskan. She is expected to return to her parent club Chelsea in December.
Claypole began her footballing journey with Whitegrove in Bracknell before moving on to Reading FC. She has represented Finland at youth level as well as England up to under 19 level. She signed her first professional contract with WSL champions, Chelsea, in November 2023 before she headed out on loan to Championship side, Lewes in the January transfer window.
She follows in the footsteps of Emma Jones and Natasha Dowie, former Reading players, who have also pulled on the jersey for the Swedish side.
The side currently sit in seventh trailing 25 points from top spot sitters, FC Rosengård who are chasing their fourteenth title. Anders Jacobson’s side will be hoping Claypole brings some of her flare to the pitch as they look to Djurgårdens IF and IFK Norrköping in the second half of the season.
The league does not run concurrently with the likes of the Women’s Super League, instead it begins in April and ends in November, with a five-week break sandwiched in the middle between July and August. The 2024 season began on the 13th of April and will conclude on the 9th of November.
Best of luck to Aimee in her European endeavour!
