We’re just getting back into this creative writing as the 2023/24 season gets underway so bear with us as a shorter ‘You Might Have Missed’ comes at you.

As ever, tag us on social media with any talking points from the weekend’s action you’ve spotted for inclusion next week.

Wokingham & Emmbrook make FA Cup progress for the first time in a long time

It’s been over a decade since Wokingham & Emmbrook fans were able to enjoy an FA Cup run, but Sunday’s 1-0 win over Cinderford Town means the Sumas have emulated the class of 2011/12 in reaching the Preliminary Round where they will face neighbours Binfield.

In 2011 the Sumas were managed by Roger Herridge and as Berkshire Live reported at the time ‘from kick off Wokingham were on the front foot, taking a second-minute lead as Sam Whiting powered a free-kick over the wall and into the top corner of the net’.

Wokingham saw further goals from Sam Duffelen and a double from substitute Dean Thomas. Jamie Wright had earlier pulled one back for Holyport while the Sumas had a Garry Sargeant penalty saved.

It’s also worth noting Wokingham’s previous experience past the Extra Preliminary Round was before the combination of Wokingham Town and Emmbrook Sports when they beat Chertsey Town 2-0 and lost to Deal Town 1-0 in the Preliminary Round in 2003/04.

Up The Ding

You might think from social media, the press and anyone with an opinion on the state of Reading FC at the moment that it was all doom and gloom.

Well, the women’s team are currently doing a decent job of pulling together in adversity and had a squad with no little experience and plenty of youth about it out at the weekend for a pre-season friendly at Portsmouth.

The game finished 2-2 but if vibes won football matches, it is the Royals who are pointing in the right direction.

Combined Counties League goals

If you are looking for goals for you money in your football, look no further than Division One of the Combined Counties League where 31 were scored across four games at the weekend.

Bedfont beat London Colney 3-2, British Airways beat Berks County 4-2, Holmer Green beat Rising Ballers Kensington 3-2, Yateley United beat London Samurai Rovers 4-2 while Hillingdon Borough beat Windsor 6-3.

Early season rust or a mark of things to come in front of goal?

Chips are more important than football

Some things are just fact.
