Ben Harris proved he really does know where the goal is after donning the gloves for Bracknell Town on Monday night in the Robins 2-1 Berks & Bucks County FA Men’s Senior Cup semi-final against MK Dons.
Harris has been a regular goal-getter from the Hellenic League right up to the Vanarama National League via a spell in New Zealand throughout his career, but on Monday night he was keeping them out as Bracknell Town advanced to a County Cup Final against old rivals Marlow.
The former Windsor striker scored 43 goals in the National League for Slough Town over 137 appearances but joined the Robins this season where he’s continued his goalscoring exploits.
However, following the sending off of Chris Grace – himself making a return to Bracknell Town after a successful spell with Binfield – Harris stepped up from the bench and went in goal with the Robins 1-0 ahead.
The resultant free-kick from Joel Anker levelled the scores but Jordan Esprit made it 2-1 shortly before half-time while Harris’ opposite number David Martin saved a Bracknell penalty in first-half injury time.

Joel Anker stands out but David Martin has Premier League and Champions League experience
Anker certainly was the MK Dons player who stood out but it’s worth noting – as Paul Jenkins highlighted to us – goalkeeper Martin is a Dons veteran of nearly 300 appearances and featured five times for West Ham United in the Premier League, deputising for the injured Lukasz Fabianski in the 2019/20 season keeping a clean sheet on his debut at Chelsea.
He was also regularly named in Liverpool’s Champions League squads but didn’t feature off the bench.
