Ascot United and Holyport are back in FA Vase action at the weekend with the Third Round looming for the two Berkshire sides left in the 2022/23 competition.
A rarity as well for our clubs see’s them both pitched at home, Ascot hosting Little Common – the conquerors of Wallingford & Crowmarsh in the previous round – while Port welcome Peacehaven & Telscombe to Summerleaze.
Both visiting sides play their league football in the Step 5 Southern Combination Premier Division with Peacehaven likely travelling to Holyport as favourites, and likewise, Ascot will have an air of expectation around them when Little Common visit.
Of course that is all based on looking at league tables and has almost nothing to do with what will happen on the pitch!
One thing we do know though is that Yellamen boss Jamie Tompkins will go into his 200th game in charge of Ascot. Writing in the match programme – available online here – the club’s Director of Football Neil Richards said: “From day one Jamie has brought commitment, dedication, high standards and quality coaching to the club that has been fundamental to the success of not only our Men’s team but also the club in general.”
Elsewhere across the county and among the all-Berks matches, Reading City ‘warm up’ for Tuesday night’s top-of-the-table Combined Counties League Premier Division North with Chalfont St Peter at home while Berks County play host to Woodley United.
