It took nine attempts to reach the FA Cup Preliminary Round for Holyport but the Combined Counties League have now reached the First Qualifying Round at the first attempt.

The Port beat one of the favourites for Step 5 promotion this season, Ascot United 2-1 thanks to goals from Kickie Dzimba and Christian Johnson seeing the Berkshire side through to the First Qualifying Round draw.

Brendan Matthew’s replied for Ascot on the hour and both sides were reduced to ten men with Port goalkeeper Mohammed Ayoub sent off and Harry Grant seeing red for Ascot in separate incidents while Port boss Sam Lock was also sent off.

Elsewhere, second-half goals from Taylor Morgan, Connor Holland and Sean Moore were enough to see Binfield through in the FA Cup with a 3-0 win at Kidlington while Virginia Water drew 1-1 with Eastbourne Town and will replay Tuesday night.

Reading City’s run came to an end though at Royal Wootton Bassett Town, losing 3-1 to the Hellenic League side.
