Versatile Maidenhead United Women footballer Chrissy Nazif is looking to end the season on a money-raising high with a 24 hour ‘Sportathon’ in aid of two charities.  Chrissy has operated in midfield and at full back, making twenty-two appearances for the Magpies in their record-breaking FA Women’s National League season.  Now the livewire Sports Co-ordinator at Reading University Student Union, along with a number of her MUWFC team-mates, is looking to demonstrate her skills in a host of other sports to raise funds for both ME Research and The Link Foundation.

Maidonian born-and-bred Chrissy, explains: “ME or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is a complex chronic neurologic disease.  My good mate Mark (28) has unfortunately been bed-bound for the last 3 years with the condition, after a normal start to his twenties. Mark, a full of life individual, has gone from being the life and soul of any gathering to someone who can’t communicate with the outside world or interact with what we take for granted every day.”

“The Link Foundation is one of our partner charities at Maidenhead United FC.  The charity seeks to provide support to local children and families with the main aim of improving lives within the local community and surrounding areas.  We hope that the money we raise for both charities will make a BIG difference.”

From Aussie Rules and Badminton through to Open Water Swimming and Ultimate Frisbee, Chrissy explains: “The Sportathon will incorporate a wide range of sports over the 24-hour period.  The event itself, will be split up into more than twenty-four sessions which will be either half hour or an hour long, each session will focus around a different sport for us to participate in.  We are hoping to get a core group of eight ‘Warriors’ to complete the full 24-hour event but we hope to be joined throughout the event by community groups, friends and family.  Braywick Leisure Centre, run by Leisure Focus (Partnered with Maidenhead United), are being incredibly generous and are working with us to host and pull of this event.  We will also be able to host part of the Sportathon at York Road”.

“We are looking to approach local businesses to see if they can help us with raffle prizes or with supporting this event in anyway.  We’ve already reached out to Red Bull who are kindly donating drinks to help fuel the event”.  Chrissy and co will also be in the Magpies Family Zone at the men’s final Vanarama National League game of the season against Notts County on Sunday 15th of May selling cakes and raffle tickets.

You can support Chrissy and her fellow ‘Warriors’ in raising money for worthy causes by donating via their Just Giving team page here.

The ‘Sportathon’ is due to take place from 9am on Friday 27th May to 9am on Saturday 28th May, we wish Chrissy and all those taking part the best of luck!
