Liverpool Women secured the 2021/22 Championship title after an emphatic 4-2 win over rivals Bristol City meaning the Robins can no longer catch up to them on points.
Liverpool somewhat fell from grace when they were relegated from the WSL in 2019/20 and have fought their way back in the last two seasons after coming third in 2020/21 behind Leicester and Durham. The team will no doubt be chomping at the bit to prove their worth when September rolls around once more with plenty of players with previous WSL experience.
There will be some especially familiar faces back in WSL once more too as Rachel Furness and Rachael Laws, former Reading players, are both part of the promotion-winning squad.
Furness, originally from Sunderland but also a Northern Ireland international, was at Reading between 2017 and 2019 making 43 appearances for the Royals and netting five times from her midfield position. Meanwhile, Laws joined Reading from Sunderland in 2018 after they failed to win WSL promotion, she made 5 appearances in her two years at the club as goalkeeper. Laws also coached at Woodley men’s squad alongside her playing career.
Congratulations to Furney, Laws and the whole Liverpool squad on their promotion to the WSL.
