The WSL kicked off on Friday 3rd September with Reading travelling to Manchester to see out a 2-0 loss, but an international break is just around the corner and so far five of the Royals in action.
This break is in aid of the opening matches of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign. Royals captains Tash Harding as well as Rachel Rowe, Lily Woodham and Gemma Evans all receive call ups for Wales. Summer departures Jess Fishlock and Angharad James also feature in the squad.
Wales will play their first game at home to Kazakhstan at the Parc y Scarlets on Friday 17 September (KO 19:15) and are set to face Estonia in Parnu on Tuesday 21 September. The Kazakhstan fixture will be the first in front of fans, affectionately named the Red Wall, since the beginning of the pandemic.
Meanwhile, Reading keeper Grace Moloney receives her 7th call up to the Republic of Ireland (ROI) squad. The team were set to face Georgia first in their 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying games, however the game has been rescheduled to June 2022 due to the pandemic. Much like the Welsh side, the ROI will be welcoming spectator’s back to Tallaght Stadium for the first time in 18 months since the outbreak of COVID-19. They will face Australia on Tuesday the 21st of September (KO 19:00).
