The BBC Sport website has reported that Reading FC Women will be playing FA WSL football within the Berkshire county boundary next season.

What’s more, the broadcaster has quotes from Royals boss Kelly Chambers confirming team will move in with the men’s side at the Madejski Stadium.

The news is yet to be posted on the Reading FC website, but speaking to BBC South Today, Chambers said: “We have always wanted to be in Reading and the plan for next season is we will be there” referring to the Madejski Stadium.

Chambers side currently play FA WSL matches at Wycombe Wanderers Adams Park in Buckinghamshire but the move will see Reading become the first FA WSL side to play at the same stadium as the men’s team.

Reading played at least four fixtures during the now terminated 2019/20 season at the Madejski Stadium and Chambers is confident the move will help build the clubs profile: “We’ve played there a few times this season and in previous ones and it will be a great way to build the fanbase.”

Football in Berkshire’s women’s football correspondent Abi Ticehurst said: “How bloody exciting! This is a seriously exciting prospect for the coming season! The accessibility of the Mad Stad for fans is going to be huge for the club and the women’s game! Football in Berkshire team trip pending?”

The Royals were promoted to the top tier of women’s football in 2015 after winning the FA WSL 2 and are consistently the fifth best women’s club side in England following their most recent league finishes.

Chambers side boast a number of England players and other seasoned internationals in their line up as well as the Lionesses all time top appearance maker in Fara Williams.
