He spent eight years and 400 or so games in charge of Windsor FC in both the Combined Counties League and Hellenic League before taking a break from football at the start of the 2019/20 season, but now Mick Woodham is ready to get back in to the game he loves.

Football in Berkshire spoke to the ex-Royalists boss after seeing a new flag unveiled by supporter Matt Stevens in his honour.

Woodham took over at Stag Meadow following the departures of Keith Scott and Jim Melvin in the summer of 2012. He departed on the eve of the current season having lead the Royalists to sixth in the Hellenic Premier last season as well as beaten finalists in the Hellenic League Challenge Cup.

The last two seasons also saw the club venture in to the latter rounds of the FA Vase with a Fifth Round appearance last season and a Quarter Final defeat to eventual finalists Stockton Town in 2017/18.

Speaking about the the flag, Woodham said: “I caught up with a few of Windsor core fans on New year’s Eve and was shown the flag . In my time at the club the supporters treated me very well and we were very fortunate to share some great memories, I will always be grateful to them.

“In total, it was eight years and 400 odd games, great times and I was blessed to work with decent players.”

Woodham though revealed, having recharged his batteries with six months out of the game that he was eager to get back. He said: “I can’t wait to get going again, I missing the involvement.

“I am looking for opportunities but with four months of the season left it maybe wise to wait until the summer, that time of the year tends to lend itself to more options.”
