Thames Valley Women’s Football League side S4K Ladies have unveiled a new kit honouring Football in Berkshire co-founder Darrell Freeland.
‘Duds’ – much loved and greatly missed across the non league game in Bracknell and further afield, passed away earlier in 2019 after a third heart operation.
The new team, which has been formed by former players of Bracknell Town Ladies and Binfield Ladies will compete in the TVCWFL Division Three South this season and wear ‘For Duds 1975 – 2019’, with many knowing Duds well from his time supporting them at both clubs.
A statement put out by the team said: “S4K Ladies FC wearing their new kit with pride in memory of Darrell Freeland (also known as Duds) who sadly passed away earlier this year. Their kit, which is embroidered with ‘For Duds 1975-2019’, pays a heartfelt tribute to his legacy in the local football community. Many of the S4K team knew Duds personally and have been inspired by his ongoing commitment and investment of time in growing women’s football. Duds spent many Sunday afternoons on the touchline watching the ladies. He will be dearly missed and always remembered and his spirit will continue to live on through the team.”
A further tribute to Darrell can be found in the Binfield Football Club boardroom where A group of Duds German friends clubbed together to have his name printed on a Borussia Dortmund shirt in memory of the many trips across to the Westfalenstadion.
