The future of a Combined Counties League Division One club is shrouded in mystery after a post on social media by the league.
Posting on twitter, @comcofl wrote at 1.30pm on Sunday: “There will be a statement asap but at this moment the League has not expelled AC London. It is premature to adjust league tables.”
Football in Bracknell understands that member clubs voted out the South London side in the summer at an EGM, but the club earned a stay of execution pending an appeal.
The club, who play at Whyteleafe’s Church Road ground have played 15 Combined Counties League Division One games this season and currently sit in fifth place with nine wins, two draws and four defeats.
What could it mean for Sandhurst Town and Eversley & California?
Both Sandhurst and Eversley have played AC London this season with Eversley winning 2-0 at home and Sandhurst winning 2-1 away.
We can only go on precedent we’ve seen set in the Hellenic League but if the club were taken out of the competition, it’s likely the results would be expunged meaning both sides would lose the points earned.
Who are AC London?
Athletic Club London were formed in 2012 by manager and owner Prince Choudary in the aftermath of the London riots in 2011.
In a 2017 interview with the BBC, Choudary, who grew up in one of the worst affected areas said: “They broke into my uncle’s clothes shop, causing him to sell up his livelihood. They went past our house but luckily nothing happened.
“The problem is the youth are misled in today’s society and go down the wrong path; they choose the street life.
“It was soon after the riots that I had the idea to start a new football club. There was little in terms of activities in Croydon and I wanted to make a change.”
A profile on the clubs website states: “AC London is a semi professional football club which was established in July 2012 by 16 year old Prince Choudary as a youth team. The first season 2012/13 saw the club promoted with three trophies. Prince was also officially named the youngest manager/Chairman at grassroots level aged just 17.”
