Thame United stunned Uhlsport Hellenic Premier Division title rivals Flackwell Heath on Tuesday night with an emphatic 5-0 victory at the ASM Stadium that effectively cuts the chase for the title down to a straight sprint between United and Bracknell Town.

The Robins were held by Flackwell Heath on Saturday but bounced back at neighbours Binfield on Monday with a 1-0 win, and had hoped a draw between the sides second and third in the table would help strengthen their grip on top spot.

As if it was going to be that straightforward..

Thame’s win puts them back in top spot by two points from Bracknell, albeit having played a game more than the Robins who will catch up at the weekend when they make the trip to Highworth Town.

For Flackwell – the third team in the race until Tuesday night this effectively marks the end of the road for their title aspirations according to manager Paul Shone.

The Heathens boss said in last weeks Slough & South Bucks Express: “Next Wednesday we’ll know if Flackwell Heath can win the title, it’s as simple as that. If we don’t come out of these two games with at least four points then we’ll have to rely on the others dropping points.”

Unfortunately for Flackwell, they’ve exited the crucial two match spell with one point from six and are four points behind Thame having played two games more.

So, barring a remarkable dip in form from either side it’s Bracknell or Thame for the title with the Robins slightly ahead by virtue of their game in hand.
