After snow and ice caused the cancellation of every fixture in the area last weekend, our local Step 6 clubs will be hoping for better luck with this weekend’s fixtures. Rain is forecast for Berkshire and the surrounding areas between now and kick off but at the time of writing all fixtures were still due to take place.

In the Hellenic Division One East, one game that stands a good chance of going ahead even if the weather deteriorates is the Berkshire derby between Wokingham & Emmbrook and Holyport on the 3G pitch at Larges Lane.

The Sumas currently sit a place above their visitors in the table, but they have played three extra games. The home side will be hoping there are no ill effects after they played 120 minutes in the Floodlit Cup on Tuesday night in a brave performance against Hellenic Premier opposition Flackwell Heath, eventually losing 3-2 after extra time.

Due to the weather and cup commitments, Holyport have only played one league game in the last month, a 0-0 draw in the reverse of Saturday’s fixture. Port are still only 5 points off second place with games in hand over most of the teams above them, so a win would see them climb back into promotion contention.

Two other local clubs meet in league action on Saturday when Wallingford Town host Woodley United at the Hithercroft. Wally are another side with hopes of promotion; they currently sit 4th in the table and a win tomorrow could potentially see them climb as high as 2nd.

Woodley are currently at the other end of the table, sitting in 11th place out of 13, however their form has been much improved over the past 3 months and they have been competitive even against the top clubs in the league. The reverse of this fixture finished 3-3 at Scours Lane in November.

AFC Aldermaston sit in 2nd in the table and they will be looking to keep the chasing pack at bay when they visit Milton United. The Atom Men have taken 4 points from 2 league games in 2019, including an impressive 3-3 draw with runaway league leaders Burnham.

Their opposition, Milton, have not won in their last 4 league games, a run that stretches back to before Christmas. A win for Aldermaston would see them close the gap to Burnham, although they would still have a long way to go to overhaul the champions elect.

In the Combined Counties Division One Eversley & California have a trip into Surrey to face Godalming Town. The Boars will be hoping to turn promising performances into league points as they face a fight to avoid relegation. They are perched precariously, just 3 points above the foot of the table and demotion to Step 7 so they will be hoping for an upturn in results sooner rather than later.

Godalming sit two places above Eversley and are enduring a disappointing season after being relegated from the Combined Counties Premier last year. The reverse of this fixture finished 5-1 in favour of the Boars, so they will be hoping for a repeat performance at the weekend.

Away from league action, Sandhurst Town take on Old Bradwell United in the semi-final of the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy. This is the Fizzers final chance for cup glory this season after they were knocked out of the Aldershot Senior Cup by Combined Counties Premier side Knapill in midweek.

Their opponents, Old Bradwell, are from north Buckinghamshire and play in the Spartan South Midlands Division Two. They have won all their 5 league and cup games in 2019 and sit in 4th in their league where they are currently battling for promotion. The Step 7 outfit will provide tough opposition for Sandhurst on Saturday.
