The premier fixture in the Combined Counties League Division One this weekend sees Sandhurst Town travel to face league leaders Frimley Green.
It will be the second time in a week that the Fizzers will face table topping opposition after they defeated Hellenic Division One East leaders Burnham in the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy last weekend. Frimley are on a 7-game winning run in the league stretching back to early November, but they did taste defeat in midweek going down 1-0 to Camberley Town in the Aldershot Senior Cup. A win for Sandhurst could see them climb as high as 7th in the table.
Eversley & California’s new boss Matt Angell has another tough assignment in his second game in charge as his side make the trip to face Dorking Wanderers Reserves.
The Boars have bolstered their ranks this week with the signings of Mark Bailey, Jordan Goater and Harrision Shade as Angell starts to shape his squad. Dorking are playing their first game of 2019 and currently sit in 8th place in the table.
Another team playing for the first time in 2019 is AFC Aldermaston who welcome league leaders Burnham in the Hellenic League Division One East.
The Atom Men have not played a match for over a month and not played a league game in six weeks due to weather and scheduling issues. In that time, they have fallen further behind Burnham and dropped to 3rd in the table. A win for Aldermaston on Saturday could see them climb back to second in the table.
The team Aldermaston will be hoping to leapfrog are Thame Rangers who play host Wokingham & Emmbrook in the weekend’s other league fixture.
Thame have already entertained Berkshire based opposition this week as they drew 1-1 with Holyport on Tuesday. Wokingham will be looking to build on their winning start to 2019 and a victory would see them climb into the top half of the table.
At Scours Lane Woodley United take on Chalvey Sports in the Supplementary Cup. Woodley are playing their second cup game in a week having defeated Wokingham & Emmbrook 2-1 in the final Subsidary Cup group game on Tuesday. Woodley and Chalvey have already played each other once this season with the Kestrels coming out on top in the league fixture.
Another team in cup action in Wallingford Town who take on Marlow United in the quarter final of the Bucks & Berks Senior Trophy at the Hithercroft. Marlow are currently third in the Thames Valley Premier League, 4 points off the top of the table with two games in hand, and they are looking to reach their third County Trophy final in a row.
The final game of the weekend with local Step 6 interest sees Holyport make the trip to central Reading to take on Wrightchoice & Unity CSA in the Reading Senior Cup.
Wrightchoice are another side from the Thames Valley Premier league where they currently sit 12th out of 13 teams. Holyport should not take Wrightchoice lightly, however, as they have already defeated Hellenic Division One East opposition this season when they knocked Wokingham & Emmbrook out of the Bucks & Berks Senior Trophy.
