After a few weeks of weather induced fixture disruption most of our local Step 6 sides will be in action this weekend providing that the rains stay away.

In the Hellenic League Division One East two local sides will clash with Holyport taking on Woodley United at Summerleaze Village. Port’s run of seven wins on the trot came to an end last weekend with a home defeat inflicted by Didcot Town Development, however they were able to bounce back on Monday night with a 2-1 win over Wokingham & Emmbrook in the Subsidary Cup. That result means Holyport have 9 wins in their last 11 games in all competitions. After a poor start to the season Woodley have been resurgent in the league of late, taking 13 points from their last 6 games. The Kestrels also won in midweek, chalking up an impressive 3-0 victory at Combined Counties Division One side Farnham Town in the Aldershot Senior Cup. A win at the weekend would see Woodley draw level on points with their hosts and could realistically see them climb as high as 5th in the table.

The other Hellenic Division One fixture with local interest sees AFC Aldermaston play their first league game in three weeks when they host Abingdon Town. Having not played in the league for such a long time, the Atom Men have fallen back from leaders Burnham, but still sit in second place in the table. In midweek Aldermaston were knocked out of the Floodlit Cup by Thornbury Town after making the long trip to South Gloucestershire with the match finishing 3-1 to the hosts. Abingdon Town make the trip to the Rec Soc with uncertainty hanging over the future of the club with media reports this week suggesting the Abbots need a cash injection of £20,000 to keep the club going past February. The club have started a crowdfunding page at gofundme.com.

In the Combined Counties League Division One Eversley & California face the daunting task of a trip to the league’s top scorers Bedfont & Feltham. The Yellows have netted 57 times in 16 league games this season and boast 3 of the league’s top 5 goal-scorers, including league top scorer Michael Capon who has 27 goals in just 20 games. The Boars will be looking to avenge the 3-2 defeat Bedfont inflicted on them a few weeks ago in the Esoteric Challenge Cup.

Also in the league, Sandhurst Town are at home to British Airways. After a narrow defeat to Ash United last weekend, the Fizzers will be looking for a win that could see them climb as high as 5th in the table. BA are playing their first season at Step 6 after winning the Middlesex County League last season and they currently sit two places below Sandhurst in the table in 10th.

Away from league action Wallingford Town have the chance to claim the scalp of Step 5 opposition when they entertain Virginia Water in the Second Round of the Reading Senior Cup. Virginia Water, who play their home games at Windsor’s Stag Meadow ground, currently sit a credible 13th out of 19 in the table in their first season in the Hellenic Premier Division after they won promotion from the Division One East last term.
