Ascot United are set to say goodbye to an FA Vase winner as Sean McCormack relocates to the USA.
The Yellas signed McCormack in the summer of 2021 from Walton & Hersham having previously played for Binfield and Bracknell Town.
McCormack has played 140 games for Jamie Tompkins side including 40 times as the Yellas won the Combined Counties League Premier Division North in 2023 – as well as the FA Vase Final win at Wembley Stadium where he was named Player of the Match.
Speaking to Ascot’s official website, Tompkins revealed the news following a 2-1 home win over Hayes & Yeading United: “Sean’s been immense for us, both in terms of his qualities as a person and player. It will be sad on our part to see him go, but we’ve been preparing for it. We’ll need others to step up and take on that responsibility. It’s not easy to replace someone like Sean, but I’m confident we’ve got players in the squad who can rise to the occasion and make their mark.”
Speaking more recently, the Yellas boss revealed the home fixture against Rayners Lane on Saturday 30th November would be the forwards last: “Sean’s last game is coming up next Saturday and it’ll be tough to say goodbye. He’s been such an integral part of this team for a few seasons, and his presence on and off the pitch will be missed. I won’t spoil any surprises, but the lads have definitely got a few things lined up to show how much he means to all of us.”
While there are farewells in the air, Ascot have snapped up Harvey Harry from Badshot Lea. Harry has previously played for Thatcham Town, Bracknell Town, Southall, Slough Town and Binfield.
