Binfield Football Club have announced the appointment of Andy Cotton as the clubs chairman after Bob Bacon decided to step down.

Bacon had been in the role for over a decade and under his leadership the Moles are playing at step 4, the highest the club has ever competed at as well as seen his side play at Wembley in the FA Vase Final.

A statement on the Binfield website explained the change: “Following the most successful season in the clubs 129-year existence our Chairman, Bob Bacon, announced at the AGM that 2021/22 would be his last season. His tenure has seen the youth teams grow and grow; he has had a significant impact on the development of the soccer school and right throughout the club structure up to overseeing the first team’s incredible journey to Wembley and promotion up to step 4.

“Bob has unfortunately had some recent health issues and had stated that if we could find his successor, then he was happy to handover. We believe that we have now found the right person and thus we give our thanks to Bob for all his contributions and impact, wish him good health and look forward to seeing him back at Hill Farm Lane, enjoying our continued development from a new and different perspective.”

New chairman Andy Cotton is no stranger to the club having served as vice-chairman and main sponsor. He said: “I have been invited back into the fold to work with the Executive Committee to support the amazing work of our first Team and all our many youth team Managers/Teams/Players & Volunteers to continue with the ambition of protecting our wonderful football club and continuing to build upon the Binfield FC legacy which others before me have sacrificed so much for. I’m hugely honoured to be invited by Bob, Rob and The Club Executive to take on the role as Chairman and I look forward to supporting all that I can both now and for the foreseeable future – I look forward to catching up with everyone so I can thank you all personally.”
