Vanarama National League South side Hungerford Town are on the lookout for a new manager after it was confirmed Ian Herring had parted company with the club.

Herring, who successfully led the Crusaders safely away from relegation at the end of the 2018/19 season had been attempting to do the same this time around when football was halted due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

A statement on the club website revealed that Herring wasn’t able to get the assurances he needed: “It has been no secret that the club needed to reduce its budget significantly and it couldn’t give Ian certain assurances he was seeking.”

Chairman Patrick Chambers said: “Ian took over in difficult circumstances after Bobby Wilkinson left the club and our fans loved his determination and spirit and he was adamant he would again escape relegation this season. I sincerely hope he gets the opportunity to move on with his progressive management style in the very near future.”

Herring has been a big support to Football in Berkshire in the last year, appearing on our ‘half time’ panel at the 2019 Berkshire Football Awards as well as putting himself up for interview on our lockdown podcast. FiB would like to wish Ian all the best for the future and we hope he’ll only be out of the game for a short while.
