It’s been a long time coming, but the floodlights are up at Lowther Road as Wokingham & Emmbrook’s permanent return home edges ever closer.
In pictures shared with Football in Bracknell, you can see new floodlights up at the ground and hard standing visible at the clubs home which is shared with a cricket pitch.
Speaking to FiB, Glenn Duggleby – the Consultant Funding & Project Manager said: “The lights and 75% of hard standing are done. To come is a base for 100 seat stand, the rest of hard standing, a stand (which will be delivered and erected next week) and pitch barriers for three sides.”
The Sumas played their home games at Bracknell Town last season in order to maintain the clubs step 6 Uhlsport Hellenic League Division One East status.
The floodlights, hard standing and seated area should allow the club to play games in the Borough next season at step 6, ending a two decade nomadic existence since leaving Finchampstead Road in 1999 with the very real prospect of a top four finish giving the Sumas a return to step 5 and hopefully access to the new Thames Valley ‘super league’.
Thames Valley Premier League side Berks County, who played at Lowther Road last season are moving to Ryeish Green Sports Hub.
