Bracknell Town chairman Kayne Steinborn-Busse has said he hopes a new covered area will be complete at the Larges Lane ground in time for the visit of Reading FC in the Berks & Bucks FA County Senior Cup.

The Robins chief explained that a roof was to be added to the shipping container down the car park side of the ground. He said: “It’s [the roof is] being fabricated this week. Hoping to have it open for the Reading game on Tuesday 27th November.”

Ahead of the much anticipated visit to Bracknell of the neighbouring EFL Championship club, Mr Steinborn-Busse revealed that the clubs had sold 800 tickets for the fixture already, with a ground capacity of 1,500 on the night.

It’s been a big week of announcements off the pitch for the club with the Bracknell News reporting it will try to shed it’s ‘old school’ image with a series of initiatives.

These include converting the current club house in to a classroom and common room for school and academy scholars as well as changing the licence to remove or reduce conditions around opening times for the bar and live music.

The ground re-opened in December 2016 with a new artificial surface and significant off the pitch refurbishment in the clubs bar and changing room facilities.

Speaking to the News (the full article is here), Mr Steinborn-Busse said: “With new homes being built in close proximity to our ground, we need to show consideration to the local residents and the club will now look to close at 10.30pm, or as near to that time as possible each night.

“Our current licence allows us the sale of alcohol, films, live music, recorded music and performance of dance every day from 11am to midnight and until 1.30am on Friday and Saturday.

“We have submitted a change to reduce the hours from 5pm to 10pm during the week, noon to 10pm on Saturday, and noon to 6pm on Sunday and to 10pm on Bank Holiday weekends.

The Bracknell chairman confirmed to Football in Bracknell that the bar would remain open and serve alcohol during first team games. He said: “The bar will be a fully functioning bar on Match Days as like now. It will just be transformed back to a student zone the other 340(ish) days a year.”
