It might have caught your notice that Bracknell Town weren’t in the draw for the early rounds of the 2018/19 Emirates FA Cup when the draw was released on Friday 6th July.

Unfortunately it isn’t good news, Football in Bracknell had originally thought that Bracknell had been given a bye to the First Qualifying Round but the club have confirmed they will not be in this seasons instalment of the competition.

The Robins chairman Kayne Steinborn-Busse has released a statement to us explaining the situation. He said: “Regarding our FA Cup application, former secretary Ian Brooks did not receive the email with the link for entry to this years FA Cup.

“Although we realised he had not made the entry before the deadline to apply it was already over subscribed when our application was made. We made several requests, however the FA had continued to state this years competition is over subscribed.

“While we are very disappointed with the FA’s stance we are happy to have received confirmation of entry to the FA Trophy and the FA Youth Cup.”

History

Bracknell have a long history in the competition dating back to 1965 and last season beat Cowes Sports in the Extra Preliminary Round before losing 4-0 to Winchester City in the Preliminary Round.

The biggest day in the Robins history was of course their one and only First Round Proper appearance in the 2000/01 season when they were beaten 4-0 by Lincoln City at Sincil Bank having previously won through five rounds.

For what it’s worth it is incredibly disappointing the Robins won’t feature in this seasons competition and we understand the club are – for want of a better word ‘gutted’ at missing out – but should have enough credit in the bank with supporters after two seasons of unparalleled success and an exciting campaign of step 4 football to look forward to.

The club have been busy preparing for the new season in the Bostik League on the pitch with player/manager Carl Davies welcoming five new signings to the club including Thatcham Town forward Josh Helmore.
