It was a poignant afternoon at Ascot United’s Racecourse Ground as a crowd of 86 watched management trio Jeff Lamb, Paul McGrotty and Derek Sweetman’s final game in charge.
The trio’s time at the Racecourse has coincided with the most successful period in the history of senior football in the town and the clubs matchday programme marked the event with a cover tribute to the achievements between 2011 and 2017.

The match itself at home to Royal Wootton Bassett Town in the Uhlsport Hellenic Premier League wasn’t the fairytale end that players and supporters would have wanted, but there was certainly plenty for the incoming Neil Richards to devour including a goal from Jack Smillie as the Yellamen took the lead while Colin Mugoya was sent off.
Since 2011, Lamb and McGrotty have overseen two FA Vase quarter final appearances, highest ever league finished, Hellenic League trophies and a best ever FA Cup run this season.
Our man Mark Pugh was at the game and captured images of the final game, look out for our gallery in the next 24 hours.
