Ascot United managers Jeff Lamb and Paul McGrotty along with coach Derek Sweetman stepped down from their posts on Wednesday morning, and have issued a statement on the club website following a barrage of well-wishing tweets and correspondence.
The statement – in full at ascotunited.net here – reads: “We would like to say a thank you to all the wonderful people at the club, who have helped us during our time. A massive thank you to the growing number of fans who have started to follow the club, and have travelled long distances to watch us, we hope this support continues to grow. To all the players and staff who have worked with us, we thank you and wish you the best in your careers.
“During our time, we have established some wonderful rivalries, all in the right spirits, and thank those involved and wish them the best.”
