Wokingham & Emmbrook Reserve team manager Jonny Austin has stepped down from his post at Lowther Road.

Speaking after announcing he was stepping down, Austin said: “Managing a side at this level was a lot more intense than I imagined and I cannot commit the amount of time needed with home life and work commitments.

“I have to say I’ve really enjoyed my short stay here, it’s a great club, with some terrific people behind the scenes and a great bunch of lads on the playing field to work with. I wish them all the best going forward”

‘A shock’

First team manager and Sumas stalward Clive McNelly responded to the news by saying: “It’s a bit of a shock really, I know the team look like their struggling at the foot of the Division 2 East table but the last three or four performances have proved they are moving in the right direction. I wish Jonny all the best in the future, and thank him for all his help over the past couple of months”

McNelly remarked: “Funny old game football, Austin started with a 11-0 defeat and ended 9-0 victory!”

The club are in search of a reserve team manager but in the interim Tom McNelly will take charge of the side on Saturday for their home fixture with Sandhurst Town Reserves, while first team coach Jamie Shepherd will assist him.
