It’s the ‘big one’ on Tuesday night for Bracknell Town as they take on one of their main Uhlsport Hellenic Premier League title rivals Thame United at Sandhurst’s Bottom Meadow ground.

The match is one of two this week for the Robins that FootballinBracknell co-editor Darrell Freeland called ‘pivotal’ with the visit of Thatcham Town on Saturday, and Thame on Tuesday night.

We spoke to our blogging colleague James Rees over at Oxon Football to get his view of the match from across the County border.

Big game on Tuesday night, are Thame gunning for the title?

Absolutely. They started the season quick out of the blocks, and even though they fell behind the likes of Thatcham in the table they’re surging back up as they start to play their games in hand. If they beat Bracknell they’ll go top, and will still have played four games less than Thatcham. And they’ve scored five in each of their last three games too, so they’re absolutely on a roll.

Do they see Bracknell as their main rivals? Is this a ‘6 pointer’ for them?

I think they’re that far ahead of Bracknell now that they probably don’t see them as they’re main rivals now. They have Thatcham clearly in their sights, and they’ll want to stay ahead of Flackwell Heath and Highworth Town and so on too. Whilst not a 6 pointer though, it’s a massive game for them given they can go top.

Aside from the forwards – Andrew Gledhill and Lynton Goss, who’s the one to watch?

They’ve been scoring for fun, especially Gledhill, but they haven’t been so great at the back, so getting Ellis Hercules back from Aylesbury United in the last week or so is a big boost for them. Thomas Ashworth and Ben Connelly are important players too, and they chip in with a few goals as well.

Thame seem to have gone out of cups early. Is that a deliberate ploy?

I wouldn’t go that far. They were unlucky to go up against two good sides in the FA Cup and FA Vase (North Leigh and Walton & Hersham). Although they played weaker sides in the Hellenic cup competitions, I’m sure they still set out to win.

Finally, a prediction?

I don’t think they’ll have it quite so easy as in recent games against Bracknell, but I can’t see anything but a Thame win I’m afraid, 3-2 or 3-1.
