Simon Johnson says Reading City want to reward their fans by making further progress in the Isuzu FA Vase.
“Reaching this stage of the competition is a significant moment for the club, and it’s one we want to share with our supporters,” commented the manager.
“The fans have been brilliant for us throughout the season, home and away, and their backing means a huge amount to the players and staff. We want to give them something to be proud of, to represent the badge properly, and, hopefully, make it a really memorable occasion for everyone connected with the club.”
Simon is fully aware that his side will need to be at their best if they are to beat Lymore Gardens this afternoon.
“There are no easy games at this stage of competition, and we know it’s going to be a tough test for us against what look to be strong opponents. But there is a very positive feeling in the dressing room, and we’re looking forward to the challenge.”

Johnson dreams of putting City on the national soccer map – and knows that would happen if they manage to stay on the FA Vase trail right through until finals day in May.
He has seen Berkshire clubs Thatcham Town, Binfield and Ascot United all make it to the Wembley showpiece in the last nine years – and Reading City are now within four games (the semi-final is two-legged) of following them to the home of English football.
The team’s preparations for this afternoon’s game were interrupted early on, with matches postponed due to bad weather, so the Cityzens were delighted to return to league action last Saturday, and were buoyed by a 3-1 victory, snapping a run of two successive 1-0 defeats.
“It was good to get a win under our belts away at Kidlington, as they were a brilliant side”, Johnson commented.
City received an early boost when Mo Ceesay opened the scoring after just six minutes.
Otis Castle brought the scores level in the 37th minute, only for Ceesay to restore the lead after 56 minutes, taking his goal tally to 11 for the season.
City stood firm in defence as Kidlington pushed hard for the equaliser and the pressure eased when recent new signing Sam Tanner added a third goal in the 81st minute.
Despite his two goals, Ceesay was pipped for the man of the match award by Ben Holder.
Experienced striker Tyler Robinson has rejoined the club from Epsom & Ewell.
