Megan Halfcaree is set to swap her football boots for running shoes as she takes on the Windsor & Eton half marathon on Saturday 13th November in aid of a charity, Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). An organisation very close to her heart, as she lost her brother to the condition when he was just a baby.

The Maidenhead United star is used to commanding the left wing for the side, but with a game-less weekend for the Magpies she’ll be lacing up her trainers to tread the trails of Dorney Lake instead.

“I will be running my first ever half marathon to raise money for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) UK. This is a charity close to my heart as in 2001 I sadly lost my brother to SMA. What makes this half marathon even more special to me, is that it takes place on my brother’s 21st birthday.”

SMA UK are a charity that supports, campaigns and advocates so that everyone affected by Spinal Muscular Atrophy can access the best care, services and treatments and benefit from continued research.

“Now, I’m used to running for 90 minutes on a football pitch but running a half marathon will be a real challenge given that I’ve never run further than 10km in one go before! However, I’m always up for a challenge and I’d be so grateful for any donations to help out this amazing charity.”

Megan has already doubled her £500 fundraising target and would dearly appreciate further donations to a cause that is very special to her and her family. You can donate your pennies to Megan on her JustGiving page right here.
