Combined Counties League Division One side Sandhurst Town prepare for arguably their biggest test of the pre season campaign with a visit from Southern League Premier Division South side Farnborough.

The Fizzers will welcome their near neighbours with boss Michael Herbert fully aware the three division gap will be a real test for his side.

Speaking to Football in Berkshire, when asked about how the friendly came about, Herbert said his club had a long standing relationship with Boro, a side they are just 6 miles from and split by the M3.

He said: “There is a long standing good relationship between the two clubs and we wanted a big team to play in our first home friendly at Bottom Meadow. It will be a real test for us and we look forward to it.”

Herbert admitted he had been to see the Cherrywood Road side in action but said: “Looking at their previous games, you don’t get much of an idea [what sort of team they will put out]. They have used a lot of trialists. We went to watch them on Monday evening and they had some very good players. Perry Coles being the stand out. It will be a very tough test but we are looking forward to it and hopefully we can get a good crowd.”

Sandhurst finished sixth last season in their first back in the CCL following two seasons in the Hellenic.

The Fizzers finished 17 points behind champions Sheerwater in Herbert’s first campaign in charge.

Football in Berkshire asked about the pre season campaign with Herbert saying it was ‘so far so good!’

He said: “Two positives performances out of our two games. Players have worked really hard in training and look fit. Games starting to come thick and fast now so I expect us to be in a good place come August 3rd.”

On the squad he said: “Our main objective was to sign the majority of the squad who performed so well in the back end of last season. In the main we have done that. We have added three players and we expect to sign another three or four players over the weekend. If we can do that, we will have a very competitive squad.”
