At the end of 2016, we caught up with Wokingham & Emmbrook president Mark Ashwell to talk to him about the famous Wokingham Town vs Cardiff City FA Cup First Round tie that was played at the old Finchampstead Road ground in 1982.

The match was a reward for Town who had already won through five rounds and eight matches including replay’s to reach the First Round Proper for the one and only time in the clubs long history.

Even better than the 1-1 draw that enabled a replay at Ninian Park were the stories that included a striker flown in from Germany by the REME in Arbofield to the collapsed wall at Finchampstead Road.
