We’ve all been there. We’ve turned up at the ground at 9.30am on a Sunday morning ready to prepare for the game.
But no one is there.
Some of your team mates slowly appear but there are some noticeable absences.
Yes, it’s the last weekend in March, the scourge of Sunday League footballers everywhere, time for the clocks to change.
The coming of spring brings with it the toughest test for a Sunday leaguer, a few drinks the night before never hurt anyone right? But moving the clock forward an hour throws everything out.
Why do the clocks change?
The clocks always go forward by one hour on the last Sunday in March and so this year, they will go forward at 1am on Sunday 26th March.
But why do they go forward? Well this marks the start of British Summer Time, meaning there is more daylight in the evenings and less in the mornings, and this is sometimes called Daylight Saving Time.
What to do if no one turns up
This weekend was always a godsend throughout my career, it usually meant I got a game due to the non appearance of others. Of course it also meant we usually lost.
