Bracknell Town v South Park (Reigate) – FA Cup First Qualifying Round on 31st August 2024
A trip to Bottom Meadow for a FA Cup tie gave me the perfect excuse to check out the food options available at Bracknell Town. They are currently updating their menu (hence no photo) but are still serving the standard football fayre of burgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, sausage roll and portions of chips. What caught my eye was a pie, something I haven’t seen very often on my travels and sometimes you just fancy something other than a burger!
With many different pie fillings available these days including various meat varieties, artisan pies and meat-free options to cater for your vegetarian and vegan customers, with the ease of cooking and storing I’m surprised pies aren’t an option at more non-league grounds. Served by two lovely friendly ladies in the kitchen, I plumped for the pie of the day which was steak, chips and a soft drink which came in at £9. The pie was perfect, flaky pastry with a generous meaty filling, and the chips crispy and tasty. I did speak to a couple of people eating on the terrace, one had a pie and Bovril (very traditional) while the other was tucking into some chips, both giving the thumbs up.
I’m told the revamped menu will include bowls of curry or chilli which will always go down well during the colder months and I look forward to testing those out on a future visit. In the meantime, a pie and chips will work for me every time!
