FA Vase winning centre-back Dan Bailey has announced his decision to step down as boss of Combined Counties League Premier Division North Virginia Water.

Bailey announced his decision on social media: “I’ve decided to step down as Player Manager at Virginia Water. Results haven’t been what I’d hoped for, but more importantly, I can’t give the role the time and energy it deserves right now. Proud to have had a go and I wish the club all the best for the future.”

In his message, Bailey cited a number of figures in the game – including a number of managers – who had offered support in what was his first managerial role.

“Thank you for reaching out to me and offering support when you didn’t have to. I appreciate it,” he said.

Bailey’s side had had a tough start to the season winning two and drawing two of the opening 11 matches. Slightly ironically, one of those wins was the managers final game in charge, a sensational 5-2 win at Reading City after his side had gone 2-0 down.

The defender joined the club midway through last season after leaving the Ascot where he made over 150 appearances. He took over the Player/Manager Adam Sams in August.

Virginia Water travel to Ardley United on Saturday for a league fixture.
