Simone O’Brien: ‘We want to keep adding to the history fo Maidenhead United Women’

Dave Kitson's Maidenhead United Women have a title retain in the Berks & Bucks County FA Cup

A much changed side now led by former Reading striker, Dave Kitson, will be looking to retain the title having secured it with a 3-1 win over Newport Pagnell Town in the 2024/25 season with goals from Izzy Stockton, Mia Parker and Nat Cowell.

Just Izzy remains from last season’s goalscorers but she’s in fine form in the 2025/26 season with 11 goals her current tally.

We caught up with captain Simone O’Brien ahead of their tie away to Milton Keynes Dons on Sunday 15th of February.’

On focus on progression

“We are all really focused and want to progress this weekend and believe it’s something we are capable of with the work we have done leading us up to this game but also across the season.”

On strong opposition

“We have created a very talented squad with our new management and coaches, I’m confident we can get a result this weekend. We are going to have graft, be resilient and play our football and stick to the game plan. MK dons look strong and they will want to win just as much as us so it’s going to be a 90 minute battle which we will give our all.”

On adding more silverware to the cabinet

“We’ve won this silverware before and to add again to the history of Maidenhead is something we want to keep doing to show the growth and talent we have this season. The girls are ready to battle and I have full confidence in them and our game plan.”

On no longer being the underdogs

I said around Christmas in an interview “We are going to be hungry to kick 2026 off with points on the board to compete for the rest of the season, cause some upsets and stop being the team that are looked at as being underdogs. We want to be the team that they are fearful of having to fight us to take three points from us.”

“and that is exactly what we will be doing to get the win this weekend and progress into the final.” Fighting talk from Simone and we wish the Magpies all the best as they head to the Division One South East side.
