Mapledurham to Wembley: Jamie Bynoe-Gittens’ Dortmund miss out on Champions League win

Youngster was latest Reading graduate to star in Europe

Dortmund faced off against Real Madrid in a packed out Wembley Stadium in the UEFA Champions League Final. The match saw Real Madrid run out a two nil win with goals from Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Junior.

The eagle-eyed amongst Berkshire will have noticed that former Caversham Trents and Reading player, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens was on the bench for BVB before replacing Jadon Sancho in the 86th minute. Bynoe-Gittens began his footballing endeavours at Caversham Trents aged five and remained with the club til age seven before entering Reading’s academy system, playing for the Royals from U9’s to U14’s before making the switch to Chelsea, with a brief stint back at Reading and finally moving to Manchester City. He signed for Borussia Dortmund in 2020.

A football family through and through clearly as Jamie’s sister, Chante Bynoe-Gittens, played for Caversham United in the 2022/23 season, scoring for the Goats in a 5-0 win over Carterton in February 2023.
