Ex Maidenhead United star moves on up to AFC Wimbledon

Former Maidenhead United star Josh Kelly is on the move to EFL League Two play off chasers AFC Wimbledon.

Kelly moved to Solihull Moors for an undisclosed fee in the summer of 2022 from the Magpies on a three year contract.

A statement from Moors said: “We collectively felt that the Wimbledon offer was sufficiently attractive to enable us to strengthen our attacking options by bringing in two new strikers in short order.

“The player has shown a real desire to move into the EFL and in the end we felt the transfer was the right decision for the club both from a financial and sporting perspective.”

Windsor born Kelly came through Maidenhead youth setup and played 129 senior games scoring 29 goals.

At Solihull his record only improved with 24 goals in 74 games.

At the time of his departure from Maidenhead, Kelly’s former manager Alan Devonshire said the opportunity for full time football was a factor: “We are obviously gutted to lose Josh and had hoped he would stay for the final year of his contract, but he wanted a new challenge and the opportunity for full time football, so we had to make the difficult decision to let him go.”
