Paul McCarthy has been appointed manager of Isthmian League side Ashford Town (Middlesex) until the end of the season.

The Tangerines goalkeeper steps up from his role as Assistant following the decision of Dean Greenwood to step down and focus on coaching.

Greenwood replaced Luke Tuffs who moved across to Leatherhead in December. A statement on the club website says: “After two months in charge Dean has decided that his future lies on the coaching/assistant side which he loves dearly. And we wholeheartedly support his decision. We couldn’t be more thankful to him for stepping up after the departure of Luke Tuffs back in early January. His work has kept the continuity at the club along with the good atmosphere that was already building. During the past couple of months, we have lost two of our strikers, including our top goalscorer, to league-leading clubs, but Deano has brought in some good young players to help us look forward. His work has been hard but that’s testament to the guy that he is.”

McCarthy is an experienced goalkeeper, having spent several seasons with Bracknell Town in the Southern League in the 2000s as well as Burnham, Uxbridge and an earlier spell with Ashford.

‘Macca’ will face his former club Bracknell on Saturday 19th March.
