Reading seem to be making a habit of this as they once again sign a former Chelsea and Arsenal player, in the shape of midfielder Silvana Flores. Flores will join fellow Chelsea departure Deanna Cooper, who joined in the summer of 2020, at Reading.
Flores is just 18 years old, but is already making a name for herself on the international stage, born in Canada but representing Mexico, she was part of the U17 World Cup squad who came runners up to Spain in 2018, she was also part of the U20’s squad who qualified for the upcoming World Cup. And if that’s not impressive enough, she received her first senior team call up during the 2019/20 campaign.
Silvana is one of three Flores siblings to make their way through the Arsenal academy, however she was unable to secure any proper game time in the senior team and made just two appearances for the club as a sub in pre-season friendlies against FC Bayern and Barcelona in the 2019/20 season. She was released by the club at the end of the season and made the move to fellow London club Chelsea where she spent time training with the first team.
Much like Arsenal however, Chelsea field an extremely competitive midfield so she was unlikely to gain much playing time with them either, hence, it seems, the move to the Royals.
Flores is small in stature but quick on the turn and could be more of the pace required to support Fishlock in the midfield for Reading as they continue to play a high-pressing game.
Flores was named as a substitute on Sunday as Reading beat Manchester United 2-0.
