Hellenic League Supplementary Cup finalists Burnham have confirmed an error on their part was the reason Saturday’s finale with Flackwell Heath has been cancelled.
Speaking to Rob Stevens in the Slough Observer, Burnham secretary Gary Reeves explained that a Burnham player, Usman Lulastani, was found to be ineligible to appear in the 1-0 win against Highworth Town in the semi-finals. He added that Highworth fielded an ineligible player in the same match.
Burnham is Lulastani’s third club this season after spells at Flackwell Heath and Binfield.
The Hellenic League announced on Tuesday morning that Saturday’s final had been cancelled citing ‘player registration irregularities’ and Reeves has urged the league to look at the rule which means a player is cup tied for the Challenge Cup AND Supplementary Cup if he moves between competing clubs in the same season.
Burnham had reached the final after beating Highworth 1-0, a rare high point in the season for the Blues who finished bottom of the Hellenic League Premier Division and will almost certainly find themselves in Division 1 East next season after earning a reprieve last season.
