Wednesday night was one to forget for Wallingford Town who suffered a heavy 11-0 defeat at Highworth Town in the Floodlit Cup.
Already well know for it’s double decker bus bar at the Hithercroft ground, the Hellenic League Division 1 East side have added ‘twitter banter’ (which if you’ve seen our own tweets you’ll know isn’t as easy as you’d think) to their list of accolades.
Let’s bring in some context: Until the weekend when they lost to Wantage Town, Highworth had won all 13 previous Hellenic Premier Division games scoring 53 goals at an average of 3.78 per game. Wallingford themselves are no slouches, sitting fourth in their first season back in the Division 1 East winning five and drawing three of their 11 league games so far.
It’s obviously a heavy defeat though for Wally Town who will understandably be a bit low this morning and need to lift themselves for Saturday’s trip to Thame Rangers. Thankfully though the clubs twitter account won a few new fans, using the 90 minutes to raise the clubs profile with a series of darkly humorous tweets which were well received on social media.
It didn’t start too well..
A goal conceded every 10 minutes .. very worrying for the final score https://t.co/UlQCrXAxEr

Lovely bit of optimism
Does anyone know if it goes straight to extra time should the scores be level in 65 minutes time? https://t.co/kR2z1DZMTP

They did earn a few fans though
Hard luck to @WallingfordTown last night beaten heavily by a good Highworth side. Worth checking out their tweets from last night though 👏 https://t.co/kZ20ssruvD
