Our Reading Women FC expert James Hopes has picked out his ‘three to watch’ as the Royals kick off their competitive season with an FA Women’s Cup Fifth Round tie at Manchester City on Saturday.
It’s Reading’s first competitive match of the season on Saturday away to Manchester City in the cup and it’s guaranteed to be a tough one. The Citizens took all 6 points from Kelly Chambers side in the league last year and will be full of confidence.
For the Royals to have a decent chance in the game and through the season, these three players need to have top performances:
Mandy Van Den Berg (pictured above)
New signing for this season and will need to be at her international captain best to stand up to the stunning array of City talent.

Melissa Fletcher
Looks to be our only experienced forward on the books for the coming season so far and will need to be full of running and trickery to get anything from City’s back line. A massive ask but Melissa is definitely capable of rising to the challenge.
Rachel Rowe
With Rachel Furness still recovering from injury Rachel Rowe could have a key role to play in the middle of the park with her ability both in defence and attack. Although given most of our wingers have left in recent weeks she may also find herself having a vital role out wide! Wherever Rachel plays she’s always a threat with her passing and terrific strike and works as hard as anyone.
